It’s simple, visit https://nisahelpline.janeapp.com and choose a counsellor, review their availability and book an appointment as per your convenience. You’ll receive an email/text confirming your appointment, and an email/text reminder will be sent before your appointment.
Who can book an appointment?
This service is only available for Canadian residents (women), 14 and over.
How do I reschedule my appointment?
If you find yourself unavailable on the day of your appointment, we kindly ask you to cancel or reschedule as soon as possible. By doing so, you allow others on the waiting list to utilize this service. Your cooperation in promptly rescheduling helps us maximize the availability of our services and benefits those eagerly waiting for assistance.
What types of therapy do the providers use?
Our licensed therapists offer Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). They may also utilize Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and other techniques depending on the needs of the client. However, as this service is considered short-term counselling the main type of therapy utilized will be SFBT.
How long is a therapy session?
There will be an intake and exit session that lasts 30 minutes. The 5 free therapy sessions are 50-minutes each.
Do you work on weekends?
Weekends are limited based on our licensed therapists availability.

What happens after I book an appointment?
Appointments booked through the helpline/online are for an intake session. After the appt.’s date/time has been finalized, for your therapy session, you must call the helpline number (1-888-315-6472) and press 3 to be connected to the licensed therapist at your scheduled time. You will need to share your codename to confirm identity once connected to our licensed therapist. After this intake session, you can work with the therapist to book subsequent sessions as per your convenience. You will also receive a copy of our consent form to sign and return at the earliest.
How can I help a loved one?
You can offer both emotional support and a lot of important practical help, like scheduling appointments or finding services, so they can get the right help. It’s important to respect your loved one’s wishes, even if you don’t agree with their choices. Forcing someone to choose a particular treatment or service provider can damage relationships and make things harder for everyone. If a loved one is an adult, they have the right to choose their own care and the right to privacy in most situations.
What can I do to help myself?
At times like this it is important to take care of yourself and practice self-compassion. Create a support system of friends and family you can rely on. How will I know if therapy is working for me?
Progress around therapy may look different for each client. This may be changes in mood, thoughts, feelings, relationships, or movement towards a particular goal. It is truly subjective for everyone.
If applicable, you will walk away with a relevant list of resources from our licensed therapists at the end of your three sessions.
Note: Being in therapy does not mean you will feel better right away. It is an intentional process; you will truly get back what you put into it. The more committed you are the better your results.
